There are opportunities to get more involved at Saltram this winter with the introduction of new Christmas Guides. These roles are great chance to join a growing family of volunteers and take part in the festivities, without having to commit a lot of time.

Saltram is becoming an ever more popular destination for Christmas. Last year saw the launch of ‘Enchanted Saltram’ with late night opening until 8pm; and now even more people are needed to help open up the house and provide a warm and festive welcome to all its visitors.

Christmas Guides will help tell the story of the Georgian house at Christmas, but they do not need to be an historical expert as they will be volunteering alongside others, and there will be lots of support.

Fiona Macmillan, Visitor Experience and Marketing Manager commented: ‘As we prepare for the late night opening hours at this special time of year, we want to encourage our local community to help out at this place that they already love and support. As a charity we rely on the support and teamwork from our amazing volunteers to keep Saltram alive for visitors’

Gwen Kent, an existing volunteer, said: ‘Joining the Saltram family last November was one of the most interesting and enjoyable things that I have done in recent years. I was warmly welcomed and made to feel part of the volunteer group from day one. I was not expected to know any of the history of the place, but to provide the friendly face of Christmas.’

If you’re keen to get involved – even if it’s just one day over the Christmas period – and want to find out more, visit the website to see a role profile and to apply online, or contact Jonathan Wilkinson by calling 01752333500 or emailing jonathan.wilkinson1@nationaltrust.org.

Enchanted Saltram is open from Monday 20 November until Saturday 30 December, 10am to 8pm (closed at 4pm Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing Day). A volunteer shift would be from 11am to 4pm or 4pm to 8pm.
