Air Cadets in Devon have hit the bullseye by securing cash to buy new archery equipment.

The 339 Squadron Air Cadets, based in Ivybridge, have been granted £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South West.

The donation from the region’s leading house builder comes as part of its Community Champions project, which will see a pot of £24,000 being given to support local groups and charities over 12 months.

Warrant Officer Lynn Parsons, of the group, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes South West for this generous donation.

“The guys and girls of the Squadron do a lot of voluntary work – anything from marshalling local bike events to packing bags at supermarkets.

“All of our cadets are doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards and some of them would like to do archery.

“This money will help us buy new equipment. They are a good bunch of cadets who are willing to help the community wherever they can, so this is great for them.”

Nina Hester, from Persimmon Homes South West, said the community initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

She said: “We are well aware of the great work that the 339 Squadron Air Cadets do in the area.

“We also know how the Duke of Edinburgh award can help boost confidence and self-esteem. We’re delighted to be able to help pay for this new equipment.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.  Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Nina said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”

Persimmon South West has developments located across Devon, including at Saltram Meadow in Plymouth where there is a range of one, two, three, four and five bedroom houses, flats, cottages and coach houses available.
