A life-saving emergency medics team in Devon has won the support of a regional builder.
BASICS Devon, based in Plymouth, has received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Cornwall’s Community Champions scheme to help fund the work of 14 volunteer medics who respond to major medical emergencies across the region
The volunteers make themselves available around the clock throughout the year, responding to incidents at the request of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
Amie Bull, for the group, said: ““We are keen to recruit more volunteers and help reduce response times, so more patients can be treated to relieve pain and suffering and save lives, as our doctors are often first on the scene be it at the roadside, in a field, on a farm or home emergency.
“This generous donation from Persimmon Homes Cornwall will enable a doctor to access and complete training to be fully equipped physically and mentally to provide emergency support in the community.”
Jane Cartwright, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Cornwall, in Launceston, said: “We are proud to be supporting BASICS Devon. It’s reassuring to know that these dedicated individuals are trained and ready, should we ever need them.
“We hope that our donation will help save many lives in the regions in which we build.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
