The year long renovation of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Plymouth is over and staff raise a glass to celebrate the hotel’s new facilities.

The £5m project has seen the hotel’s 211 rooms, conference rooms and reception completely refitted, remodelled and revamped to bring the 1970s building and interior bang up to date.

General Manager Kevin Byrnes said: “The interior of the hotel is transformed and we are delighted that the city now has a hotel it can be proud of, located right in its heart. We want guests to feel connected, rested and restored when they stay here, and have also remodelled the conference facilities available, so along with the new restaurant offerings, can see it’s going to be an amazing year for the Plymouth’s first Crowne Plaza.”

The new Crowne Plaza is already attracting guests from around the world in part thanks to the opening of an award-winning restaurant by Marco Pierre White. The steakhouse offers everything from steaks to afternoon tea, perhaps most impressive though are the views of the waterfront it’s top floor location affords to diners.

Head housekeeper Wendy John, who has worked at the hotel for 32 years, said the transformation was “unbelievable”.

“I started working here when I was 18 and have seen a lot of changes,” she said. “This latest refurbishment has really turned the hotel into something special. It’s lovely to see them investing in the city.”

The hotel, with its restaurants, gym and pool, has been a part of the Plymouth skyline since it was built and famous guests over the years have included Prime Ministers, Take That, Little Mix and Hollywood Actors including Christian Slater, but it is the team working there that Kevin Byrnes feels most strongly about, “However stylish and modern a hotel is, ultimately it is down to the staff that work there. They are the ones that deliver the day to day experience to customers, and I raise a glass to the team we have in place today. Here’s to the next 46 years.”
