Already a serious player in the organic and grass-fed meat sector, Bratton Clovelly based Eversfield Organic is acquiring The Well Hung Meat Company, taking effect as of today, Thursday 16th November 2017. The acquisition will position Eversfield Organic in the top three organic box delivery businesses nationwide and cement its position as a market leader with a combined turnover of over £5 million.

The two businesses are based on either side of Dartmoor. The Well Hung Meat Company is an organic meat business based in Buckfastleigh whilst family-run organic farm, Eversfield Organic is positioned just outside Okehampton. By joining forces, they will extend the already outstanding offering of organic meat and other organic produce, which both are renowned for, thereby providing an even better service to customers.

Adding further weight ongoing, founding director of The Well Hung Meat Company, Geoff Sayers, will become a non-executive director of Eversfield Organic.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mark Bury, founder and director of Eversfield Organic, says:
“Geoff and I have always shared similar principles and our values in terms of organic are aligned. We have enjoyed a competitive, but friendly business relationship.”

Mark continues: “The increased scale of the consolidated business will give us the strength and breadth within the industry, ensuring we can continue to innovate and provide great organic meat and produce to as many people as possible. The organic market is a challenging arena for producers to survive in financially, however the economies of scale this acquisition brings will help drive profitability.”

On a final note, Mark says: “Our core priority will be to ensure that the transition runs smoothly and that both The Well Hung Meat Company and our existing customers are looked after with the utmost care and attention.”

On behalf of The Well Hung Meat Company, Geoff says: “The Eversfield team is committed and experienced so this is great news for the staff, suppliers and customers of The Well Hung Meat Company. Mark and I both share the same view that the best meat comes from happy, naturally reared animals from traditional breeds. It is, therefore, an entirely logical move for the two companies to become one.” Geoff continues: “I look forward to working alongside the team at Eversfield Organic whilst also having more time to concentrate on our large dairy business and Carswell Cottages.”

The perks for existing customers of both are clear. As well as the meat being organic and grass fed, Eversfield Organic produce is sent fresh, not pre-frozen. The meat is butchered on the day of despatch, arriving at the customer’s door the following day, it could not be fresher. It is still ‘well hung’ as the beef is hung for a minimum of 21 days with premium rib joints and so forth hanging for up to 35 days.

The Well Hung Meat Company customers will benefit from a much wider range of produce, including fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy and cheese, wild fish, bread and baked goods, deli items, award-winning charcuterie and sweet treats – all certified organic and most produce hailing from the South West. There will also be more delivery options. Customers can choose deliveries from Tuesday to Saturday plus opt for priority slots pre-10.30am and pre-12 o’clock if a morning delivery is required. A text message will be sent on the morning of the delivery with a one-hour time slot when the box will arrive. Customers will have more time to vary repeat boxes, up to four days before their delivery day, either online or over the phone. They will be able to choose between one-off orders or deliveries of a regular box.
