Exmouth’s first ever Gate to Plate event, celebrating the finest local food and craft producers, was pronounced a resounding success today (Tuesday 30 April) with up to 8,000 visitors attending.

Taking place on the Strand on Sunday 28 April, Exmouth Gate to Plate offered an enjoyable experience to residents and visitors alike. Funded by East Devon District Council, it was delivered by Eat:Festivals who highlight the best food and drink producers as well as traditional crafts people, by creating fantastic open-air events where people can enjoy delicious locally produced food and drink of East Devon.

Robert Murray, East Devon District Council’s Economic Development Manager, said: "East Devon District Council is dedicated to championing our town centre businesses as well as our fine, local producers who provide food and drink of the utmost quality.

"We take great pride in sponsoring inaugural Gate to Plate events, having initiated Honiton Gate to Plate in 2018. These events encourage support for our local businesses through increased visitor numbers, help residents to experience the unique offer from local producers and growers, and promote the purchase of local food and drink with much lower food miles. We are delighted to support this vital and cherished sector of our economy."

Festival organiser Sarah Milner Simonds from Eat:Festivals said: "A big thank you to the team at East Devon District Council for their assistance. It was brilliant to see so many officers and members attend today alongside the many thousands of visitors.

"We pride ourselves on bringing a diverse footfall into town centres, creating busy trading opportunities and providing a high quality, free day out. We thoroughly enjoyed today and hope to establish this festival as an annual, and maybe twice a year event in the civic calendar.

"The Strand is a brilliant, accessible space to use and we felt it lent itself perfectly to a showcase of local food and drink in the town centre."
